Abstract

The term sore throat is used to define all kinds of acute inflammatory symptoms in the throat. Sore throat is more common in children than in adults. Children may experience six to eight upper respiratory tract infections. Half of these infections are associated with pharyngitis. Viral pharyngitis is frequently accompanied by a runny nose and cough (Table 3.1.1).
