Abstract

Lady beetles are among the most well-known predators and their role in the suppression of pest populations has been distinguished from a long time ago. However, in Iran, their employment dates back to about 70 years before with the introduction of Vedalia beetle to suppress cottony cushion scale. From then, the research on this group started and continued. Recently, the lady beetle fauna of different parts of Iran has been studied extensively. Moreover, additional investigations especially on life table, functional response, population dynamics and demographic toxicology have been reported in recent years. But, it sounds that there are still some serious vacancies for applied studies with this potential biocontrol agents.
