Abstract

The 1998 North American Ice Storm was a succession of ice storms in Ontario, Quebec, the Canadian Maritimes, and northeastern United States. The amount of ice deposited was completely unprecedented, with widespread tree damage and an astonishing collapse of over 1000 electrical towers, leading to impassable roads and power outages to over 4 million people for weeks.
