Abstract
In order to understand laser interaction with matter, one needs to have some basic knowledge of electromagnetic field in addition to conduction of heat in solids that was described in the previous chapter. As part of the interaction of high-power laser energy with solid, or slab geometry, one needs to have some basic understanding of electromagnetic wave equation and consequently its behavior, when it comes to laser irradiation. Thus, in this chapter, we try to introduce Maxwell’s equations and electric field of the electromagnetic wave, at a very holistic wave, and leave the granule aspect of it to the readers so they can refer themselves to more detailed related books.
