Abstract
Implant-based breast augmentation and reconstruction is one of the most popular aesthetic surgeries performed worldwide. Yet, it has high complication and revision rates due to, in part, improper patient selection, unfavorable patient tissue, incorrect implant selection, and poor surgical technique. The mature plastic surgeon must be able to analyze these complex problems and execute a treatment plan that results in reliable and highly satisfying outcomes with less risk of reoperation. This requires a thorough understanding of certain principles in breast anatomy, the underlying complexity of the case, patient selection, biodimensional planning, properties of breast implants and alloplastic materials, meticulous surgical techniques, and appropriate postoperative care.
