Sleep Disorders in Selected Psychiatric Settings

Abstract

This chapter presents a typical case scenario of an adult patient with nocturnal panic disorder (NPD), which is a distinct subgroup of panic disorder. After an illustrative case report, we will explain the typical clinical characteristics of NPD and delineate it from diurnal panic disorder and other common sleep disorders, such as night terrors, sleep-associated seizures, and sleep apnea. We will finish by discussing the current treatment of NPD, which includes the use of cognitive behavioral therapy.
