Abstract
Intermodal transport is a relatively new mode of transport that has developed on the basis of existing basic modes of transport. In the historical context, therefore, traffic law defining the basic frameworks and necessary regulations for intermodal transport has also evolved under the law of the basic modes of transport and in the wider economy in general. Intermodal transport therefore does not have its own legislation in the form of special laws. At most it has its own notice as implementing rules, but they refer to the laws of the basic types of transport. The intermodal terminal only participates in the transport of basic intermodal freight unit translation services and their short-term storage, as basic services of a transition point between different types of transport networks. Intermodal terminals also include other additional services such as technical inspections, maintenance, cleaning or long-term storage of empty intermodal loading units. These services can already be provided by multiple subjects, which is a guarantee of a competitive environment. At the same time, the risk of damage to the goods during handling increases. Advantages and disadvantages of using intermodal transport from the perspective of carriers are described in the article.
