Entrepreneurship, Technology Commercialisation, and Innovation Policy in Africa

Abstract

Africans seek a prosperous continent based on inclusive growth and sustainable development. The Africa Union Commission Agenda 2063 recognises that entrepreneurship, innovation and transformative change are paramount in order to realise the aspirations. Transformative change relates to transformations in socio-economic goals, technologies, and politics in ways that neither exacerbate inequality and exclusion nor impose adversity on ecology and the environment but engender justiciable equity, inclusivity and sustainability. The viewpoint reiterated in this chapter and throughout the book is that practicable policies that engender knowledge creation, innovation, and technology commercialisation through entrepreneurship are essential towards achieving the aspirations documented in Agenda 2063.
