Abstract
Placing an airway is one of the most critical procedures that is performed in the ED and ICU. Unlike intubations that occur in controlled settings such as the operating room, emergent airways are much more difficult and require a careful plan of attack. Plan for success but prepare for failure: Following this rule will always allow you to be two steps ahead of the process. Do not ever think you are too good to not need a plan. Be smart, your patient will thank you.
