Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to assess the life attitudes of a modern woman chief, which involve work motives and incentives, goals and means, visions of the success and issues of intention to be materialized. Design/methodology/approach: The paper offers an analysis of conceptual approaches to the study of women’s leadership issues. The background of the paper is also the findings of a sociological survey conducted at the Russian State Social University in 2019. The main research method is a computer-assisted web interviewing of women working in Russian enterprises. Also, 15 in-depth interviews were held with women filling senior positions. Findings: In the course of the paper we identified the main components of the personal and business behavior patterns of women chiefs. Finally, we concluded that the majority of women chiefs prone to a forced or mixed type of business activity. The commitment to income growth as the main incentive for climbing the career ladder is explained by the troublesome economic situation, economic crises and downfalls of recent years. A woman needs to financially assist to herself and her family, and this is the first incentive for career growth. Uniqueness/value: The theoretical summaries and conclusions presented in the article supplement the current knowledge concerning various social roles and statuses of women, specify the basic concepts of leadership theory. The findings can be useful for business chiefs, entrepreneurs, public characters and a wide range of readers.
