  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Co-Production of Public Services and Outcomes

Abstract

This chapter proposes a public value framework within which to understand the role and effects of co-production. It explores the potential effects of co-production on quality of life outcomes, efficiency, service quality and public governance, looking at a wide range of definitions of these concepts and showing how the impact of co-production is likely to vary according to the context. The chapter also considers evidence from academic studies and practice case studies on the extent to which these potential impacts have actually been achieved to date.
