Abstract
The Visegrad four (V4; Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) are often seen as foot-draggers on climate action in the EU, as their domestic energy policy approach focused on fossil fuels and large generation units often contradicts EU’s ambitious energy-climate agenda. However, although still marked by lower ecological awareness and disengagement from the issues of energy, the societies in the V4 states are quickly catching up with the EU-wide public attitudes towards sustainable energy transition. Using Eurobarometer data and some country-specific surveys this chapter analyzes public opinion in the V4 on issues such as climate change, energy efficiency, or support for the development of renewable energy and compares it to the EU average, taking into account regional demographics and domestic energy policy context.
