Abstract
In Chs. 5 and 6 we discussed how to use CG and DG to discretize a scalar conservation law. In Ch. 7 we extended these ideas to discretize systems of conservation laws for both CG and DG. However, these types of equations are entirely hyperbolic (first order equations in these cases). In this chapter we learn how to use the CG method to discretize second order equations that are elliptic.
