Abstract
In Chapters 5 and 6 we described the discretization of the 1D wave equation using both continuous and discontinuous Galerkin methods, respectively. However, in those chapters, the methods were described in the traditional way which made them appear to be quite different although similarities could be observed. In this chapter, we construct these methods in a unified way so that they can co-exist within the same piece of software. In order to achieve this unification of CG and DG requires analyzing the storage of the methods; this is the objective of Sec. 7.2.
