Abstract
So far we have only discussed the implementation of continuous Galerkin (CG) and discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods in one dimension. We have done so for the advection and diffusion equations, and by extension the advection-diffusion equation. In addition, in Ch. 7 we discussed the application of both methods for systems of nonlinear equations in one dimension. In this chapter we now extend the ideas that we have learned so far in one dimension and extend it to two dimensions where we focus on the discretization of elliptic equations using the CG method. In what follows, we shall use the global gridpoint (GPP) storage. In Ch. 14 we describe the local element-wise (LEW) storage.
