Knowledge Communities in Teacher Education

Abstract

Negotiating Career Pathway Challenges takes a self-study approach (LaBoskey in International handbook of self-study of teaching and teacher education practices. Kluwer, Dordrecht, Netherlands, pp. 817–869, 2004; Hamilton and Pinnegar in Reconceptualizing teaching practice: Self-study in teacher education. Falmer Press, London, UK, pp. 235–246, 1998; Munby and Russell in Improving teacher education practices through self-study. Falmer Press, London, UK, pp. 172–184, 1995) to narratively examining challenges encountered in the long careers of the Portfolio Group. From a teacher educator perspective, the chapter brings forth common situations that are found across the education system career continuum. Topics include the influence of education environments on teacher educator decisions to stay or leave and living one’s best-loved self (Craig in Asian Pacific Journal of Education 33(3): 261–272, 2013).
