Palliative Care for Chronic Cancer Patients in the Community

Abstract

Recent randomized clinical trials have provided clear evidence of the benefit of the introduction of palliative care concurrent with standard oncology care for patients with advanced incurable cancer. As a result, international guidelines make clear recommendations for the integration of palliative care together with oncology care for patients with advanced cancer. In this chapter, we describe ways of collaboration between palliative care and oncology services and review global models of integration of palliative care and oncology services.
