Abstract

The international pediatric oncology program (Programme International d’Oncologie Pédiatrique, PIOP) of the SOLETERRE Foundation was created to defend the right to health and life for children and adolescents with cancer. Launched in 2005 in Ukraine, the program is now operational in five countries: Italy (starting in 2012), Ivory Coast (2010), Morocco (2010), and Ukraine and Uganda (2014). The program has also been launched in India.

It is a complex mechanism designed to act on the various factors that determine access to and quality of care, with a focus on psychological support, out-of-hospital accommodation, physician and paramedic education in early diagnosis, and awareness.

Soleterre is an NGO accredited by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is registered with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and with UNAR (Italian National office Against Racial discrimination under the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers). It is a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and recipient of a silver medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic for its activities in pediatric oncology.
