Abstract
Palliative care in Morocco is in its early stages of development. Today, only cancer patients can benefit from palliative care, as the only national health plan in Morocco that integrates palliative care as a strategic axis is the National Plan for Cancer Prevention and Control (PNPCC) 2010–2019.
The objective of this policy is to make palliative care accessible to all cancer patients by 2019. Despite this, palliative care services in Morocco are currently available in only a few cities, primarily serving patients residing in the surrounding areas of these cities.
The basic curriculum in Morocco’s education sectors lacks palliative care training, as well as continuing training; the burdensome of regulatory requirements has prolonged the state of morphinophobia among doctors and pharmacists, thereby limiting the prescribing of morphine and its dispensation. Legislative, organizational, cultural and educational obstacles cause disarray for the patient while at the same time facing extreme suffering from which he/she can be relieved thanks to the collective will of the government and health community.
