Abstract

The combination of ubiquitous high speed connectivity, a plethora of devices to capture vast amounts of data, the secure distribution of such data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) deployed to make sense of data across the ecosystem and automation of many business processes is leading to significant innovation in the application space. New business models are being created, old ones are being tweaked and reworked and previously un-served customers are being delivered products and services, some that they didn’t even know they wanted.

Notes

  1. 1.

In August 2017, Microsoft and Amazon entered into a partnership where Alexa and Cortana would offer access to each other’s services. The idea was that users would have another easy conduit from which to access Alexa while Cortana would be provided with a badly needed escape from the PC where it has been stuck since the collapse of Window’s Phone. Microsoft has better AI but Amazon has the assistant, the devices, market acceptance and the smart home. If Microsoft throws its weight behind Alexa on the PC, it has a better chance of keeping Google at bay.
