Abstract
Both human and nonhuman animal literatures suggest embodied rigid appraisals as core mechanisms of emotional disorders. In this chapter, I describe the process of assessment, conceptualization, and treatment of embodied rigid appraisals or embodied irrational beliefs. I begin by describing the assessment and the conceptualization of embodied rigid appraisals. Then, I layout new interventions targeting fully activated embodied rigid appraisals such as exposure, memory restructuring methods, mindfulness, and body-based interventions and discuss the medication treatment of embodied rigid appraisals. Targeting embodied rigid appraisals opens doors for integrating new psychological interventions into extant evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatments.
