Abstract
Distortions of emotional cognition are core processes involved in disorders of emotion. To understand the embodied simulations involved in distorted emotional cognition, one has to first understand how emotional cognition is grounded in re-enactments of brain and body states during emotional experiences. In this chapter, I define hot cognition in terms of emotional thinking and present disembodied and embodied views on hot cognition. Then, the concept of embodied simulation in emotional cognition is described. Evidence for the embodied simulation in emotional thinking and the role of language in the control of simulations and resulting emotions is reviewed. Finally, the implications for the embodiment of emotional cognition are advanced.
