Human Factors in Surgery

Abstract

This chapter discusses the tools and technology construct within the SEIPS model, which involves factors such as usability, accessibility, and familiarity as they relate to things such as information technologies, medical devices, and physical tools and equipment within the context of surgery. The authors discuss the complexity of the operating room from a technology perspective and methods used by human factors professionals to evaluate usability and the user experience of working in this environment.
