Abstract

This book, the first English-language collection of essays on Peruvian cinema, discusses the significant growth of cinematic production in the country during the first two decades of the twenty-first century. This upsurge is examined through the lens of Peru’s adoption of a neoliberal agenda which prominently inserted the country into the global marketplace. Providing a critical panorama of the diverse modes of filmmaking currently being developed in Peru, this book shows how the global debates around cinema are played out on and off-screen in a distinctive national context.
