Abstract
The last 20 years have witnessed a trend towards the centralization of colorectal surgery. Both surgeon and hospital volumes have a significant impact on both short-term and oncologic long-term outcomes. However, there is no consensus on volume thresholds, and differences between hospitals considered low- or high-volume are diminishing over time. In addition, public health policies have limited the centralization of colorectal surgery for cancer worldwide.
