Abstract
The most well-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin. This coin has the first mover advantage over all the other coins which were created afterwards. Today there exists a huge variety of digital coins. Some of them have found their way in the digital world, others hardly have any value at all or are scams. This chapter first provides general information on cryptocurrencies with a focus on those with the highest market value. It will detail users, objectives and opportunities of cryptocurrencies. Moreover, it will explain how new cryptocurrencies can be created. Thereafter, this chapter will give an overview of the characteristics of different cryptocurrencies. The chapter concludes with an overview of the different attributes of the mentioned cryptocurrencies.
