Abstract
This chapter starts a process of identifying some longer-term effects of performance projects in care settings. Building on the relationship between creativity and care outlined in previous chapters, it considers the effect that these sorts of collaborations can have on care settings, and how artists might address the difficulty of working with carers in the context of a task-orientated care system. The second half of the chapter departs from care homes and considers the effects that those with caring roles might have on contemporary performance more broadly. Offering an analysis of the Young Vic’s 2015 production Turning a Little Further, it explores what happened when women with caring responsibilities are placed at the centre of a performance process, and how this can generate distinctive modes of production.
