Abstract
Over the past several decades, there has been an increasingly robust consideration of the roles of fathers in child language development during the early childhood years. The findings across these studies suggest that father-child interactions, and characteristics of father talk in particular, have positive associations with later child language skills above and beyond the contributions of mother-child interactions. While the majority of studies in this area have considered the experiences of fathers of typically developing children, some emerging research suggests that fathers may play a similar role in shaping the language development of young children with developmental delays and disabilities.
