Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to provide a critical analysis of the medical literature with respect to factors associated with the pathogenesis, evaluation, and treatment of Charcot neuroarthropathy of the foot and ankle. This includes a discussion of early diagnosis, medical management, surgical intervention, and patient expectations. The authors attempt to define limitations within the contemporary knowledge base and identify gaps which might be examined by future generations of foot and ankle surgeons.
