Abstract

The response of governments to the advent of COVID-19 has required them to consider behaviour at the population level, as well as the individual and group levels. The concept of psychological governance recognises the value of a macropsychology perspective in trying to shape collective behaviours. Different countries have adopted different types of public communications to engender a collective response to the pandemic. We consider these messages in the context of broader psychological processes that may impede or facilitate their effectiveness in the context of COVID-19.
