Abstract
This book focuses on the meaning-making and experiences of men in the United States who purposefully sought out extramarital relationships online. These men did not fall into an affair due to opportunity. They created their own opportunities by logging on, creating a profile on Ashley Madison, and vetting potential partners. For these men, ending their marriages was not an attractive option, and living with unmet emotional needs proved untenable. To avoid the hurt, financial challenges, stigma, and upset of a divorce, the men engaged in the Infidelity Workaround, in an effort to outsource the emotional aspect of their primary partnerships to a more enthusiastic third party.
