Abstract
In this chapter editors Fenstermaker and Stewart describe how they developed the idea for this volume, as well as their primary goal: to provide a set of unique perspectives by feminist social scientists on how their own intellectual journeys were affected by ideas about gender, as well as how their thinking about gender influenced their disciplines, including interdisciplines such as Women’s, Disability and Trans Studies. They offer readers suggestions about alternative reading and teaching strategies for the book, and identify some of the most prominent themes that preoccupy volume contributors.
