Quality of Life in Female Adolescents with Bleeding Disorders

Hematology in the Adolescent Female

Abstract

Inherited bleeding disorders in adolescent girls often manifest as heavy menstrual bleeding and impact quality of life, especially health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Currently there are many validated tools to assess bleeding severity, as well as measure menstrual blood loss; however, the metrics to measure quality of life in adolescents are lacking. Furthermore, the metrics used for adults do not necessarily apply to the adolescent population. In this chapter, we have explained and outlined the available metrics for measuring HRQOL, their pros and cons, and the areas that need more research in this particular population.
