Semantic and Structural Peculiarities of Proverbs and Sayings in the Form of a Compound Sentence with a Meaning of Comparisons

Abstract

The authors of the paper have analyzed the structural peculiarities of proverbs and sayings in the form of compound sentences in Kyrgyz, expressing the meaning of comparison and mutual semantic correlations of simple sentences as part of these compound sentences. Since it is known that the meaning of comparison is determined by means of semantic correlations between simple sentences. Such sentences mutually compare phenomena which are similar in meaning, and their content is detailed; thought is expressed most clearly and impressively.

For a broader disclosure of the topic, we refer to proverbs and sayings which constitute a special kind of compound sentences, to their practical importance in the life of people, to peculiarities of expression of the meaning of comparison in them. It should be noted that meanings of comparison are well represented in proverbs and sayings that have the form of a compound sentence.

A classification of proverbs and sayings of comparative structure by semantic types is also presented. It has been found that such proverbs are converted into complex sentences when translated into Russian.
