Abstract

In current practice, umbilical hernias can be repaired by several mesh repair techniques, including the retrorectus (Rives-Stoppa) repair. In the Rives-Stoppa technique, the mesh is excluded from the visceral contents and thus does not pose a problem for future abdominal surgery. Furthermore, this technique is increasingly becoming the preferred approach for ventral hernia owing to its durability and long-term outcomes.
