Abstract

One of our main goals as physicians is to help our patients become as independent and successful as possible. Given the sometimes overwhelming physical demands and mobility limitations that cerebral palsy has on our patients means that accomplishing this goal of independence or even modified independence may be rather difficult. One of the ways that we can assist our patients in their strive to be independent successful members of the community is through the use of orthotics and durable medical equipment. Just as the severity of cerebral palsy varies from patient to patient, so does the amount of support that orthotics and equipment may provide. It is our job to choose the right support for the individual patient to meet their needs and achieve their goals.
