Abstract

Recently the parliament of India passed a bill offering amnesty to non-Muslim illegal immigrants from three neighbouring countries: Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) specifically provides citizenship to religious minorities escaping from these countries as refugees, especially the Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities who arrived by 31 December 2014 as a result of religious persecution.
