Abstract
The exaltation of the nation and the more or less successful attempts to monopolise it in a fascist sense were a constant in the ideology of Fascism and Falangism. This chapter analyses the origins of the Fascist and Falangist nation. It also examines how Fascists and Falangists revived and implemented the theme of the nation in the public discourse. Priorelli focuses on the merciless struggle against the ‘anti-nationals’, those who believed in a different idea of fatherland to that of Fascists and Falangists. She also draws attention to the Fascist and Falangist efforts to expand the presence of their respective party in every sector of the state and citizens’ lives.
