Abstract
Otoplasty generally refers to correction of a congenitally prominent ear or prominauris. The deformity is actually a group of deformities; a distinction is made between the lack of an antihelical fold and an overly developed concha. This chapter will review otoplasty procedures performed for congenital defects of the ear as well as techniques for auricular reconstruction of more severe deformities. Important considerations in auricular reconstruction include costal cartilage grafting, staging of the procedure, careful analysis, and judicious use of auricular prostheses. Developmental anatomy of the ear will be concisely reviewed and correlated to common congenital anomalies. The related entity of external auditory canal atresia is discussed along with considerations for assessing middle ear and hearing status.
