Abstract
Advanced practice providers (APP) can be asked to be expert witnesses against colleagues in the healthcare profession and to render comment on care. There are several components to qualifying as an expert witness, and the role can take many forms. Malpractice cases against nurse practitioner and physician assistants are uncommon, but the emotional and financial challenges with a lawsuit are not inconsequential. However, there are steps that one can take to ensure that documentation does not open a door for questions regarding one’s skills and experience.
