Abstract
This chapter demonstrates how two queer Edwardian writers, Lawrence and Forster, turn to the dynamic qualities of the seaside environment to explore the unsettledness and uncertainties of the male protagonists’ sexual identities. Both Lawrence and Forster engage closely with the material qualities of the sandscapes such as sand grains, waves and foam bubbles to reflect on the constant movement of the elements that takes place on the shore and to explore the themes of love and passion and the dynamicity of human identity.
