Co-authorship in Interethnic Dialogues: Reflections on the Amerindian Support Network

Psychology as a Dialogical Science

Abstract

This paper presents and discusses principles of dialogical psychology applied to a practical intervention in inter-ethnic dialogues. From the presupposition that the routes for the construction of mutual and collaborative understandings are not direct or transparent, we have identified three main challenges to the work of the Amerindian Support Network, a service offered by the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo to the Amerindian communities around. These challenges encompass the development of the availability to listen to the other, the construction of an affective ground for semiotic sharing and the consideration of the other as singular and inapprehensible. Reflecting on these challenges, we propose theoretical and methodological references for the construction of co-authorship concerning the guided actions of psychologists together with persons belonging to distinct ethnic communities.
