Religion, Faith-Based Organizations, and Welfare Delivery in Contemporary Eastern Europe: An Introduction to the Volume

Faith-Based Organizations and Social Welfare

Abstract

We begin the volume with a comparative consideration of the role and function of religious-based organizations in strengthening associational life in East Europe. The chapters in this collection investigate church–state relations in the post-communist period, church-provided welfare services, and public opinion about the role of the church. In surveying the chapters, we find considerable variation among the case-studies, and between the case-studies and the Western European experience.
