Abstract
Before homing in on the Global Markets business, some fundamentals about the banking business shall be discussed in this chapter. We will have a look at the ecosystem of Global Markets that includes a variety of markets participants. Some of them will be your customers, others your competitors. For some of them, it is useful to be able to understand and predict their behavior, because their actions have a significant market impact. Also, a selection of key concepts of financial market theory is reviewed. For brevity, only those concepts are discussed here that are relevant when covering sales, trading, research and derivatives later on.
