Abstract
This chapter reports on the ever-changing and rapid evolution of cloud platforms in the audiovisual translation industry, drawing attention to the major changes that these innovative work environments have brought about in the localisation of audiovisual productions. As a result of the development and fine-tuning of cloud-based platforms, workflows and translators’ workstations seem to have irrevocably changed. In this chapter, we set out to outline recent advancements in cloud-based computing applied to translation technology, with an emphasis on audiovisual translation practices and subtitling systems. By offering an evaluation of the tools available in the industry today, this research aims to depict the use made of cloud systems in both professional and academic circles.
