Abstract
This chapter begins with a discussion of whether current and projected levels of climate-related population displacement represent a transient crisis or the new normal. It summarizes potential efforts to prevent population displacement that focus on economic, social, and environmental sustainability, efforts to manage population internal and international displacement, and efforts to mitigate the health consequences of population displacement. The uncertainty as to the exact number of climigrants now and in the future and implications of viewing climigration as an adaptive strategy that should be supported rather than an acknowledgment of the failure to mitigate climate change are also considered. It concludes with an examination of the role of partnerships involving researchers, policy makers, service providers, and communities in addressing these efforts.
