Abstract
This book identifies a wide range of issues concerning forms of disintegration in collective bodies and their implications for economies and societies. In this concluding chapter, some measures that might combat the threats posed both by disintegration and by authoritarian and oppressive responses to it are explored. In particular, the potential contribution of the unconditional Universal Basic Income, as a measure to reduce coercion by state authorities as the full impact of technological change on employment is felt, and as enabling citizens’ future equality and freedom, is analysed in some detail.
