Abstract
Carotid artery disease is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and as such, it warrants a position in the forefront of medical and scientific studies. In the following chapter, medical and surgical management of carotid artery disease are reviewed through the history of the field. This review lends way to the principles of current management and gives insight into future directions and potential advances in our knowledge and treatment of carotid artery pathology.
