Abstract

This chapter will introduce the logistics of programming the MSP430 MCU in assembly and running programs on the MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad™ Development Kit [1, 2, 3]. It is expected that the reader has CCS installed on their workstation and has a MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad™ Development Kit. This chapter introduces the anatomy of an assembler source file and provides some simple code to blink an LED on the LaunchPad™. The debugger tools are then explored to allow the code to be paused, re-started, and to view the contents of registers and memory. This chapter is not intended to be an exhaustive coverage of all possible assembler capabilities, but rather a means to form a basic understanding of an assembly program and get your first program running.
