Abstract
Education is the other main component of the environment in which the evolution of society takes place; it provides the essential transmission of information from one generation to the next. The role of education is explored, starting with Durkheim’s view, but then progressing into the importance of critical thinking, before investigating how education—as a process—influences the evolution of society. Finally, the relationships of education to technology and to economics are acknowledged.
